Idaho Cab Driver Charged With DUI

A Nampa cab driver, Jeffrey Knutson, is facing a DUI charge following a crash involving a motorcyclist.  Knutson, 43, slammed his taxi into a 38-year-old woman riding on a motorcycle last Saturday afternoon around 5:00 p.m.  The woman was taken to the hospital and is in serious condition.

Corporal Jamie Burns, of the Nampa Police Department, reports that officers were called to the intersection of Northside Boulevard and 6th Street on Saturday for the crash.  According to police, the cab driver for 2KrazyKabs in Nampa was heading southbound on Northside Boulevard.  Knutson attempted to make a left hand turn into a Shell station to get gas when his cab collided with the woman and her motorcycle.

Nampa Police say that Knutson’s blood alcohol content was nearly three times the legal limit.   He is being charged with aggravated DUI, which is a felony charge, for causing bodily harm to the motorcyclist. Knutson was also cited for having an open alcohol container in the cab with him.  There were no passengers in the taxi at the time of the crash.  He was held at Canyon County Jail without bond and was scheduled to appear in court on the morning of May 28, 2013.

This was the 2nd instance in Idaho involving a taxi driver and DUI charges reported in the last 15 months.  Last February, James Huffman crashed his taxi cab into a Garden City Police car.  He was cited with his second DUI charge.
