Why rows over money can lead to Divorce

Whilst many Husbands and Wives row over issues relating to their children, parenting, the in-laws, socialising and sex, a recent study has shown that it is those who row mostly over money that are the ones destined for Divorce.

According to the Family Relationships journal report, arguments about money are the top predictor for divorce; they are more intense and take longer to recover from, than any other kind of argument.

Although I often come across financial stress as a major factor in leading to marriage breakdowns, I don’t agree that arguments solely relating to money are the main reasons that lead to Divorce. The study reports that in arguments relating to money, couples used harsher language and the arguments lasted for a longer period of time. However, I am

sure that arguments in relation to infidelity, mistrust and lies can last just as long and can contain even more colourful language between a Husband and a Wife.

No one Divorce is ever the same and neither are the factors in support of the irretrievable breakdown of the marriage. Yes arguments about money can be included within a Divorce Petition based on the fact of Unreasonable Behaviour, but it is rare these are the only source of arguments referred to. The particulars of Unreasonable Behaviour are subjective and can include a whole host of reasons as to why a marriage has broken down.
