The divorce between Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore continues to draw media attention as they attempt to reach a financial settlement. The New York Daily News has reported that the proceedings have been stalled by Demi’s requests for spousal maintenance and money to renovate her luxury apartment.
Ashton Kutcher has been listed as America’s highest earning TV actor by Forbes, reportedly earning $24 million. However, the New York Daily News has reported that it is Demi who has the highest net worth; she is apparently worth $10 million more than Ashton. The article attributes this partly to a favourable settlement in her Divorce from Bruce Willis. In any event, it is clear that these celebrities are not short a few dollars to battle over.
The reality is that Separated couples often experience a delay in finalising their divorce while they negotiate a Financial Settlement, regardless of their level of wealth. In the jurisdiction of England and Wales, it is common for divorcing couples to wait until the courts have approved or ordered a financial settlement before requesting their decree absolute. This can be due to a variety of reasons depending on individual circumstances, for example a change in respect of pension rights or the extinguishing of Land Registry Notices.
