The advantages of a Fixed-Fee Divorce

The money-saving website Love Money has today released an article detailing the 10 most expensive cities in England for a divorce, looking at average hourly rates and overall costs of a divorce.

The article is based on research carried out by Divorce Depot, which apparently reviewed 20 cases in each city, to look at averages. It comes as no surprise that London is cited as the most expensive city, with the average hourly rate of a family lawyer being £350. The report suggests however that hourly rates for divorce services can reach £1000 per hour.

It is important that people are not scared by such figures, which do not represent the kind of costs that would be charged in a standard case.

In the current financial climate, Divorce costs are of course a big concern for clients when they split. It is hard to compare like with like, as some cases involve much more work than others, depending on the circumstances and it is always important that clients get an estimate of fees based on their own circumstances.

Another way to limit costs is to opt for a fixed-fee divorce product, which means that so long as there are no unexpected developments, the costs are capped and include all the necessary work. Here at Slater & Gordon we offer various fixed-price products, both for divorce and financial matters, offering different levels of input, depending on what is required.
