Parents and Newborn Killed in Hit and Run Accident

Nachman and Raizy Glauber, both 21, were killed in a hit-and-run accident in Brooklyn the morning of March 3, 2013. According to an ABC News report, the fatal crash occurred in the tight-knit neighborhood of Williamsburg, primarily made up of Orthodox Jews.

Police say the young couple was on their way to the hospital in a livery cab because Raizy Glauber, who was six months pregnant, was not feeling well. The cab was struck by a BMW. Raizy Glauber was ejected from the vehicle and was later found under a tractor-trailer. Nachman Glauber was pinned in the car. Both were pronounced dead at the hospital.

Hit-and-Run Crash Proves Fatal

The premature baby initially survived with brain and internal injuries, but later died at the hospital, a family member has said. The driver of the cab was also taken to the hospital with injuries. Police are searching for the driver of the BMW and a female passenger who fled on foot after the incident. Police have also charged the woman who had co-signed the vehicle’s lease with insurance fraud. She has been charged with allowing a third party to use the vehicle without notifying the insurance company.

This incident has sparked outrage in the tight-knit community. The family and community members have issued statements asking the two people in the BMW to turn themselves in.

Holding Hit-and-Run Drivers Accountable

Leaving the scene of an injury accident is a serious crime. In addition, it is inhumane and irresponsible to do so. The two people in the BMW left a pregnant woman lying on the roadway without even stopping to help! Three lives were involved here. I certainly hope officials are able to apprehend those responsible and bring them to justice.
