Stripper Dies after Balcony Fall while Lap Dancing

cleveland stripperLauren Block, 22, died after attempting a tricky move during a lap dance that caused her to fall 15 feet from a balcony and sustain fatal head injuries. According to an ABC news report, Block had been in critical condition since her Jan. 2 fall. Block was giving a customer a lap dance on the second floor of Christie’s Cabaret in Cleveland when she attempted a jump dance move that misfired.

The man who was getting the lap dance told police that Block grabbed the rail as he was facing away from the balcony and tried to complete some sort of jump-dance move. Instead, she accidentally went head first over the rail, police said. She suffered massive head trauma and was lying on the floor of the club. She was transported to a hospital where she remained in critical condition and died a week later. Cleveland police have ruled the death an accident.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family members and friends of Lauren Block for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. I offer my deepest sympathies to everyone who knew and loved her.

What Caused This Incident?

Based on this news report, Block died on the job. She apparently attempted a move during lap-dancing that was “tricky.” There are several unanswered questions here. Had Block done that move before? Was this a freak accident? Did the customer request that she make the move? Did Block decide to try the move at the spur of the moment? Did her employer suggest or ask the dancers to perform or attempt that particular move? Were there any fall guards at the balcony that could have prevented the fall? These and other issues would have to be carefully examined in order to make sense of this tragic incident.

Protecting their Rights

Families of workers who are killed on the job can seek workers’ compensation benefits from their employers. In some cases where there are other negligent parties, families may also be able to file a third-party wrongful death claim. In such cases, it would benefit victims’ families to seek a consultation from an experienced personal injury lawyer who has successfully handled workplace accident cases. The best personal injury law firms always offer free consultations and comprehensive case evaluations to injured victims and their families.
