Use Unique Passwords

Making multiple passwords may seem like a pain, but it can really save you from identity theft. It’s always important to have your passwords as challenging as possible, and to never use the same ones for all of your personal accounts. Always try to include a capital letter, a number, and a symbol and at least have a total of 6-8 characters. If you are afraid you will forget it, write it down in a private journal, and be sure to keep the journal somewhere out of reach from house guests. Unless you have a password protected folder, you should avoid putting your passwords in a file in your computer, just in case it gets hacked. Don’t share your passwords with friends because as much as you trust them, there is always the chance of betrayal.

Use Only Trusted ATM’s

ATM’s were constructed for our convenience, so we can access our money at any point. Although, there are criminals that have found ways to make it inconvenient for us by accessing our account with their own illegal forms of technology. This is important for when you’re traveling abroad because there are so many ATM’s with minimal security, and it can result in your bank account getting robbed. If an ATM looks suspicious and looks as it’s been tampered with, you should wait and find another trusted one. Also be sure to make sure nobody is standing too close to you while you’re getting money, so they can’t see what your pin number is.

Don’t Give Away Your Hard Drive

Even if you delete your information from your computer, it can always be recovered. If you plan on selling your computer or laptop, you should make sure you take out the hard drive, and replace it or tell the person to purchase one on their own. This is especially important if you find yourself saving private information on your computer system. In most cases, an ordinary person probably won’t try to access your history or even know how to. Although in the wrong hands, a person that does know how to search computers can re-access everything you thought you deleted.
